‘Devin Booker, you’re not going to beat me with my own move!’: When Kobe Bryant was hilariously candid after the Suns star tried his trademark shot on him
Kobe Bryant was an NBA icon of the 2000s.
Bryant’s iconic status and signature moves set the tone for the next generation of basketball. Kobe spent his entire career in Los Angeles with the Lakers, winning 5 championships during his time there.
Kobe’s impact even extended beyond basketball, with his “Black Mamba” persona and signature shoe campaign with Nike. His cultural impact has been extremely felt in the world of basketball.

His style of play combined with his ‘Mamba Mentality’ made the next generation addicted to him. What Michael Jordan was for Kobe’s generation, Kobe has become for the next.
And one player who has always credited Kobe as his inspiration in the sport is Devin Booker.
The Suns star plays in the same position as Kobe and has often been considered Kobe’s closest match in the modern game.
Devin Booker was drafted by Phoenix in the 2015 draft. With Kobe’s retirement in 2016, encounters between the two on the court were limited but memorable.
Kobe hilariously recalled how he felt when Booker pulled over for a midrange fadeaway jumper Kobe style on him.
What did Kobe have to say about Booker copying his stunt?
Kobe’s mastery of midrange was impressive. In similar terms to how Kobe took on Michael Jordan, Book went against his idol and fired his shot at him.
Naturally, Bryant, a perennial All-Defensive selection, didn’t let that pass.
Kobe remembers how he did the same with Michael Jordan and praised Booker’s game. Kobe recalls how Booker got rid of him well as he got the ball back for the first time in the game.
Bryant recognized Booker for his attitude and fantastic ability. It must have had Booker on cloud nine. It’s not every day that you get liked by your hero in public.
Although Booker hasn’t given up on shooting Kobe, he’s developed his mid-range game into a deadly weapon. With Kobe’s “Be Legendary” message inked on him, Booker would definitely want to emulate his icon.
The Booker’s Suns have come close to the title on several occasions. However, their failure calls for further improvements. Booker will be looking to carry his load better and be the Kobe of the Suns.
Therefore, while he may not have landed the shot on Kobe, it’s safe to say his icon has embraced his talent and confidence should be what drives Book forward. Few people can claim the same.
