Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene Shakes Up Green New Deal Conspiracy
During a speech in the House on Wednesday night, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene used a Scooby-Doo meme to illustrate her claims that Democrats were secretly hiding parts of the Green New Deal in the bipartisan infrastructure bill. Which, she said, will bind the bonded United States to China. Which one … okay?
“It’s a simple meme you’ll find on the internet, but this meme is very real,” Taylor Greene said. “The Green New Deal is, surprise, at the service of China and China only. ”
The meme is the most viral part of Taylor Greene’s presentation as it is completely absurd to see a congressman standing next to a low-level meme that you’ll likely see on Facebook boomer, where Taylor Greene presumably spends a lot of time. of time. But all his 30 minute speech was just as far-fetched. In the speech, Greene asserted that “the Green New Deal” is “written in the infrastructure bill and put in the $ 3.5 trillion budget.” With that in mind, the Scooby-Doo meme isn’t just a fun visual aid, but rather a literal illustration of its ‘thesis’. (I use this term very loosely.)
“The Green New Deal is quickly becoming a very real reality for America, which is tragic,” Greene said. Okay to disagree, I guess.
Unsurprisingly, there isn’t much evidence or real facts in Greene’s speech to back up his claims that the deeply watered down infrastructure bill is in fact the despicable, socialist Green New Deal in disguise. There is also no real sign that Americans will be chained to China spending some (much needed) money to fix our roads and bridges. During his speech, Greene described Democrats as wanting to make the United States “dependent on China just to drive a car or a truck.” She posted a meme of Chinese President Xi Jinping with the catchy caption in the font Impact “I OWN JOE BIDEN / AND NOW I OWN AFGHANISTANS [sic] LITHIUM DEPOSITS “because she claimed Biden was indebted to Senator Bernie Sanders and that” the vaccine police and climate justice troops to keep track of your every move. ”
And, of course, she sprinkled a fair amount of insanely silly climate denial throughout the whole affair. “The climate has changed throughout Earth’s history, and no amount of taxes anyone can pay will change the climate,” she said. “It’s just the truth, which is not made up, like climate change and climate justice.” Cool, thank you Marjorie.
Watching his speech melted my brain. As a reminder, Greene once launched the idea that the forest fires were caused by space lasers controlled by democrats, so we’re not really dealing with someone with a solid science background here. And it’s pretty clear that much of this word salad is just junk to piss off his Q-lover base.
But it’s one thing to laugh at memes pulled from the depths of 8chan when presented to the House as visual aids – that’s too very scary understand that an elected official is essentially using the sources of those memes to shape their actual arguments and politics. It was especially revealing when Taylor Greene read straightforward portions of Green New Deal legislation talking about promises for climate justice and jobs as if those words alone were worthy of contempt. It certainly fits a pattern with other extremist GOP members of Congress, such as Rep. Lauren Boebert, who peddled the stupid burger plot who got pissed off earlier this year as well as attack a Biden candidate. (In strange and surely completely unrelated news, Boebert failed to disclose the nearly a million dollars in gas consulting contracts her husband had it on his campaign fundraising forms.)
The right-wing’s obsession with the very existence of the Green New Deal confirms that the concepts and words the climate movement regularly uses have turned into bogus hats rather than the very real things that must happen if states -United and the world want avoid further climate degradation and protect fossil fuel workers and frontline communities in the transition to clean energy. None of this, in case it is not clear, has to do with China or the creation of ‘climate justice troops’.
Surprisingly, Taylor Greene said the 30 minutes she had to speak last night is only half of what she has to say on this topic: her planned speech was a massive hour. “[E]expect Part 2 of Reasons Why the Green New Deal serves China to arrive soon, ”she wrote in a Tweeter.
Will there be boomer memes? Almost certainly.
