The Hero Splendor electric conversion kit launched for Rs 35k by GoGoA1
The EV conversion kit developed by GoGo1 is the first such conversion kit for motorcycles approved by RTO
The global auto industry has unequivocally supported electric mobility, as battery-powered vehicles are seen as the best way to reduce emissions levels. While new electric vehicles (EVs) emerge every two days, it is clear that the majority of mobility solutions still run on fossil fuels today.
To have an immediate impact on reducing emissions levels, many existing IC motor vehicles would need to be battery operated. This could only happen with an EV conversion kit where the conventional IC motor is replaced with an electric powertrain including a battery and an electric motor.
While an EV conversion kit for cars was recently released a few weeks ago, a similar conversion kit for motorcycles was developed and released last month. Conceptualized by a Thane-based EV startup named GoGoA1, this is the first time an EV conversion kit for two-wheelers has been approved by RTO.
The cost of this conversion kit has been set at Rs 35,000, while an additional GST of Rs 6,300 is also applied. The entire kit comes with a 3 year warranty. This excludes the battery. If you want the battery with a range of 151 km, the total cost of the kit and battery will bring the price to Rs 95,000. This excludes the cost of the donor’s motorcycle.
Other components in this EV conversion kit consist of DC to DC converter, new throttle, wire harness, key switch with control box and new swing arms. Orders for this EV conversion kit can be booked online on the company’s official website. The materials will be delivered and installed at the local GoGoA1 installation center.
At present, GoGoA1 has local installation configurations in 36 RTOs across the country, which are expected to be expanded soon. Since it has been approved by RTO, its insurance will be applicable and its valuation will be updated accordingly. Also, since it is an electric vehicle, the registration number on the bicycle will not change, but a new green registration plate would be provided.
This EV conversion kit consists of a 2.8 kWh battery that supplies power to a 2 kW brushless electric motor mounted on the rear wheel hub. A prototype of this kit was mounted on a Hero Splendor which was shown in the attached video.
The hub motor is integrated with a drum brake which includes brake and shoes from Bajaj Pulsar. The rated power is 2.4 hp and 63 Nm of torque. However, the maximum power could be extended to 6.2 hp (4.6 kW) and 63 Nm of torque.
The Hero Splendor Electric modified with this powertrain is said to reach a top speed of 80 km / h while it can travel a range of 151 km on a full charge. This powertrain was fitted with battery regeneration technology that could recover 5-20% of the battery using a 65A regenerative controller. The maximum efficiency of the electric motor was rated at 92% .
